Purpose and History
CODSIA was formed in 1964 by industry associations having common interests in the defense and space fields. The Department of Defense encouraged the establishment of this organization as a vehicle for obtaining broad industry reactions to new or revised procurement regulations, policies, and procedures. CODSIA functions as a voluntary, coordinating, non-profit, consultative body. It is not an additional industry or trade association, nor by any means a "super association" or "federation of associations." It in no way affects the authority of its individual member associations, which are completely free to deal directly and independently with personnel and agencies of the federal government. CODSIA is not a lobbying organization and does not get involved in legislative initiatives. None of its officers, committees, or staff can engage in lobbying on the Council's behalf.
